Would you like to volunteer with us?

We are a family living in beautiful Gratangen, Northern Norway, surrounded by mountains, fjords, and four-legged friends. Our life is closely connected to nature and to our pack of huskies – dog mushing is not just an activity, it’s a way of life. Now, we’re opening our home to volunteers who want to be part of this rhythm.

What kind of help we need

We also have two children and appreciate volunteers who enjoy being part of an active family life – from playing football in the yard to sharing meals or quiet moments by the fire. Helping with childcare is not required, but it’s a bonus if you feel comfortable around kids.

Living with us

Volunteers stay in two private, high-standard cabins (heated and with electricity) next to our house. All meals are made in our home kitchen, and we always share at least one meal together daily – usually dinner. This is important to us and a great time to talk, connect, and unwind.

If you have a valid driver’s license, you may borrow our car for short trips to explore the surrounding area. There are great hiking opportunities, beautiful viewpoints, and plenty of peace and quiet.

We also offer a small amount of pocket money, depending on your level of responsibility and how long you stay. This is not a paid position, but a contribution to help cover small personal expenses during your stay.

Cultural exchange

You’ll experience both Norwegian and Sámi culture while staying with us. We’re happy to share stories and perspectives, and we use some Sámi language in everyday life, especially with our kids. If you’re interested in learning Norwegian, this is also a great place to practice – we speak fluent English, so communication is easy.

Important to know

We live a calm and family-oriented lifestyle and have a strict no-drugs policy. We’re looking for people who are respectful, reliable, and confident around animals and children. No experience with sled dogs is required – just an open mind, helpful spirit, and love for nature and animals.
We prefer that our helpers stay for a while. It actually takes a few weeks to learn this work, and it also takes quite some time to learn how to mush properly. Therefore, we require a minimum stay of 6 weeks.
